Two things, and price is only one of them. The first is the physical network: every low-cost brand is a reseller, so the brand on the eSIM tells you nothing and the network behind it tells you everything. UZO runs on MEO, WOO on NOS, and DIGI on its own. MEO reaches roughly 99% of the population on 4G and is measurably the strongest in Trás-os-Montes, the Serra da Estrela and the Gerês, which is the whole argument for paying attention to the reseller map before the price.
The second is that switching is genuinely free, and an eSIM makes it same-day. Under ANACOM Regulation 38/2025, in force since 10 November 2025, keeping your number costs EUR 0 and completes within one working day. You ask your current operator for the CVP code and hand it to the new one, and a delay earns you EUR 3 per day in compensation. With no plastic to post, the new profile is a QR code in your inbox.
The trap is the 24 month contract on a parent brand. MEO, NOS and Vodafone all raised prices about 2.2% in early 2026, and a locked contract absorbs that rise while the low-cost eSIMs held EUR 5 for 100 GB or more.
